A decline in car sales in major EU markets, including Germany and Italy, led to a drop in overall new car registrations.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), new car registrations fell by 3.4% in February and 3% in the first two months of the year compared to the same period in 2023.
Germany, Italy, and France saw decreases of 4.6%, 6%, and 3.3%, respectively, while Spain recorded an 8.4% increase.
Despite the overall decline, electric vehicles (EVs) continue to gain market share.
In February, 15.4% of newly registered cars were battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), up from 11.5% in the same period last year.
Chinese-made EVs are also on the rise across the bloc.
