The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has requested former MP Eran Wickramaratne to relinquish his party membership following his recent appointment to lead Sri Lanka Cricket’s Transformation Committee.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that while the party has accepted Wickramaratne’s resignation from its Working Committee and Management Committee, it has also formally asked him to step down from the party entirely.
This move aligns with the SJB’s policy of preventing politicians from holding positions in sports governing bodies, reinforcing its stance on maintaining independence in such institutions.
Wickramaratne was earlier appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage to chair the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, which is tasked with implementing administrative and structural reforms within the country’s cricket system.
The Minister has clarified that the committee is not an interim arrangement, but a long-term reform body that will continue its work until fresh elections are conducted.
