Labour Minister Anil Jayantha pledged today to utilize Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF) resources to provide greater benefits to workers, moving away from the unproductive investments made in the past.
Speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget in Parliament, he emphasized the need for new laws to ensure these funds are used more effectively for the benefit of the working population.
The Minister also announced plans to digitalize EPF and ETF operations in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Technology Development, ensuring that these funds will be managed online in the future.
Additionally, he committed to introducing new laws aimed at eliminating industrial disputes permanently. Sri Lanka’s labor laws, he noted, will be revised to align with global trends, particularly in industrial and production relations. However, he assured that employees would have a stronger voice in decision-making within organizations.
