Emirates is set to become the world’s first Autism Certified Airline, marking a significant step towards making air travel more inclusive and accessible.
The designation will be formally awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) in the coming months, following the initial training of over 30,000 Emirates cabin crew and ground staff.
As part of the initiative, the Dubai-based airline plans to introduce new standards and services aimed at enhancing the travel experience for individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as their families and companions.
These updates will include both on-ground and in-flight improvements, with further details to be announced later this year.
Emirates emphasized that the initiative addresses key challenges faced by autistic travelers.
Research from AutismTravel.com reveals that 78% of families with autistic members are hesitant to travel, and 94% would travel more if autism-trained staff were available.
By taking this step, Emirates aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all passengers.
