Eight special trains deployed for Kandy Esala perahera

The Sri Lanka Railways Department has announced the operation of eight special train services to facilitate the travel of pilgrims and tourists attending the Randoli Perahera of the annual Kandy Esala Perahera.

These special trains will run daily from August 4 to 8, covering major routes between Colombo Fort, Kandy, Matale, Nawalapitiya, and Polgahawela.

According to the schedule:

  • Special Train No. 1 will depart from Colombo Fort to Kandy at 8:55 a.m.
  • Special Train No. 3 will leave Kandy for Matale at 3:30 p.m.
  • Special Train No. 4 will operate from Kandy to Colombo Fort at 11:30 p.m.
  • Special Train No. 5 will depart from Kandy to Matale at 11:35 p.m.
  • Special Train No. 6 will run from Matale to Nawalapitiya at 1:55 p.m.
  • Special Train No. 7 will operate from Kandy to Nawalapitiya at 11:55 p.m.
  • Special Train No. 8 will depart from Kandy to Polgahawela at 11:45 p.m.

These services are intended to ease transportation during the peak period of the perahera, ensuring better access for both local and foreign visitors.
