Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe should be referred for urgent heart surgery, says Dr. Rukshan Bellana, Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital.

He explained that the procedure could be performed at the National Hospital according to the waiting list, but Wickremesinghe also has the option of undergoing surgery at a private hospital to avoid long delays.
Dr. Bellana noted that Wickremesinghe is suffering from complications due to blockages in the coronary arteries and a weakened heart condition, adding that surgery would help restore normal function.
He further said that although the National Hospital waiting list could take up to three years, the former President may choose to bear the cost and have the procedure done at a private institution.
Meanwhile, Wickremesinghe’s office announced that he will continue receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital in the coming days.
The office also stated that following his treatment, the former President plans to invite all political parties for discussions, while expressing gratitude to everyone who supported the fight against unconstitutional autocracy since his arrest.
