Donald Trump sworn in as 47th US president at capitol ceremony

Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, pledging a “revolution of common sense” and asserting a mandate to restore trust, security, and justice in America.

Overcoming impeachments, criminal indictments, and assassination attempts, he returned to the White House determined to enact swift changes.

In his inaugural address, Trump declared the nation’s sovereignty would be reclaimed and its decline reversed, promising bold executive actions to tighten border security, boost fossil fuel production, and dismantle federal diversity programs.

His first orders, emphasizing the “restoration of America,” signal an aggressive policy shift.

The ceremony, moved indoors due to cold weather, saw Vice President JD Vance sworn in first, followed by Trump, who used family and Lincoln’s Bibles for his oath.

The event marked a historic political comeback, underscored by bipartisan tension and a stark departure from Trump’s refusal to attend Biden’s inauguration four years earlier.

Trump’s agenda, which includes repealing Biden-era climate and social initiatives, targeting immigration, and reshaping the federal workforce, has drawn praise from allies and criticism from opponents.

His “America First” stance, particularly on foreign policy and economic tariffs, is under global scrutiny, as he redefines U.S. leadership both domestically and internationally.
