U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (March 24) that Washington is making progress in efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict with Iran, including securing what he described as a significant concession from Tehran.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said the U.S. was in active negotiations and engaging with “the right people” in Iran, adding that Tehran was keen to reach a deal. “We’re in negotiations right now,” he said.
However, Iranian officials denied that direct talks had taken place, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf dismissing such reports as “fake news.”
According to media reports, the U.S. has sent Iran a proposed 15-point plan aimed at ending the conflict, which includes a possible ceasefire and conditions such as dismantling Iran’s nuclear programme, ending support for proxy groups, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. A source familiar with the matter confirmed that a proposal had been delivered, though details remain undisclosed.
Trump also claimed Iran had made a key concession related to non-nuclear energy and the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route that has been largely disrupted during the conflict, contributing to a sharp rise in fuel prices worldwide.
Despite diplomatic efforts, military tensions remain high, with continued strikes reported and the U.S. preparing to deploy additional troops to the region, potentially increasing its already significant military presence.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif offered to host talks between the U.S. and Iran, expressing support for dialogue and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
