The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced a temporary suspension on issuing driving licences to foreign nationals intending to operate three-wheelers in Sri Lanka.
Officials further clarified that there are no plans to introduce a special temporary licence for foreigners to drive three-wheelers.
However, police confirmed that foreign nationals with a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) are still legally allowed to drive in the country. Those holding domestic driving licences from their home countries may also drive, provided they obtain the necessary certificate or endorsement from the DMT.
