Acting Health Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni announced that a disciplinary inquiry will be launched against the Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, for disclosing details about former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s health condition to the media while he was under treatment in remand custody.
Dr. Wijemuni emphasized that Dr. Bellana had no authority to make such statements, noting that the former President had not even been admitted to his section of the hospital.
“The Deputy Director acted beyond his responsibilities, and this must be investigated,” the Acting Minister said.
He further highlighted that releasing a patient’s medical details to the media is neither legal nor ethical, irrespective of the officer’s rank.
“His actions are unacceptable, and some remarks made were factually inaccurate. Therefore, a disciplinary investigation will definitely be carried out,” Dr. Wijemuni confirmed.
