Uninsured Victorians whose homes were severely damaged or destroyed in the recent bushfires may be eligible for financial assistance of up to $52,250 to help them rebuild their lives.
This support is in addition to other payments already announced by the state and federal governments, including $1,000 per adult and $400 per child under the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP), as well as one-off Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) payments of $680 per adult and $340 per child, up to $2,380 per family.
The assistance targets households, small businesses, primary producers, and local councils affected by fires that destroyed over 350 homes across Victoria, including areas such as Barkers Creek, Harcourt, Longwood, Natimuk, and Sutton Grange.
State and federal officials emphasized that the support will cover essential needs like food, clothing, medication, accommodation, debris removal, and restoration of public assets. Uninsured residents will receive priority for payments to re-establish their principal place of residence.
Premier Jacinta Allan highlighted that the recovery process will extend beyond financial aid, with mental health services expanded to support individuals, families, and communities affected by trauma.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stressed the collaborative efforts of the Commonwealth and state governments to ensure communities can recover from the devastating fires, noting, “We’ve got your back, not just during this crisis but through the recovery as well.”
Victorians seeking assistance can check eligibility and apply online through Services Australia (AGDRP) or visit Emergency Relief Centres and the VicEmergency website (DRFA). Hotline support is also available for those needing help with claims or Centrelink payments.
