
Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was arrested in connection with the 9th of May, 2022 attack on peaceful protesters at Galle Face, was granted bail today.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura released him on bail with two sureties of Rs. 1 million each and also imposed a travel ban.
Tennakoon, who is currently held at Dumbara Prison, was produced before court via Zoom.
The Magistrate further clarified that Tennakoon is not the 33rd suspect in the case, as earlier stated, but the 37th suspect, while the 33rd suspect is identified as Liyanad Mendis.
