Dengue cases surge in Batticaloa following floods and Monsoon rains

The Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) in Batticaloa has reported a rapid spread of dengue fever across the district following recent floods and monsoon rains.

Health authorities have observed a significant increase in dengue cases in several Divisional Secretariat areas, prompting intensified inspections and preventive measures. As part of these efforts, multiple raids have been carried out in affected localities.

More than 400 houses have been inspected so far, during which dengue mosquito larvae were found at several locations, including a cinema hall, according to the RDHS. Legal action has been initiated against the management of the cinema hall following the detection.

In addition, warnings have been issued to homeowners found to have conditions conducive to mosquito breeding. The RDHS said cases have been filed where necessary, and red warning notices have been displayed at multiple locations.
