Dengue cases in Sri Lanka surpass 19,000 in 2025

The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has expressed alarm over a significant surge in dengue cases in Sri Lanka, with over 19,000 infections and seven related deaths reported so far in 2025, according to its Director, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera.

Although the situation in the Ratnapura District has improved, several Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions in the region still report high numbers of cases.

In response, the NDCU has launched a special dengue eradication campaign from 19th to 24th of May focusing on eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, raising public awareness, and engaging communities in high-risk areas.
