Dengue cases climb to 27,900 with 16 deaths reported in 2025

The Ministry of Health has reported 27,932 dengue cases and 16 related deaths so far this year, with the Western Province accounting for 45% of the total.

Several child fatalities have also been confirmed, and the Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces have been identified as high-risk zones.

To curb the spread of dengue and chikungunya, a nationwide mosquito control week will be held from 30th of June to 6th of July targeting 16 districts.

Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, stated the campaign will focus on reducing mosquito populations, especially amid rising infections and increased rainfall due to the Southwest monsoon.
