Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara chaired a special discussion at the Parliament Complex to accelerate welfare assistance for Tri-Forces personnel, Police officers, and members of the Special Task Force (STF) who sustained disabilities as a result of terrorist activities during Sri Lanka’s conflict.

The meeting focused on the rapid implementation of a government-backed welfare programme aimed at addressing long-standing issues faced by disabled members of the security forces. The initiative follows Cabinet approval of recommendations submitted by a committee appointed to identify affected personnel and provide suitable relief measures.

Discussions also centered on establishing medical boards under the Ministry of Health to assess cases involving military and police personnel who were killed, disabled, or discharged from service due to conflict-related injuries.

Officials explored plans to decentralize medical board services and expand their operations to regional areas, making it easier for disabled veterans across the country to access assessments and benefits.

Deputy Minister Jayasekara instructed relevant authorities to expedite the implementation of the programme and ensure that welfare assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries without delay.

He further emphasized the importance of utilizing medical facilities within the Tri-Forces to support referrals and speed up the processing of welfare claims, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting those who sacrificed in service to the nation.

The meeting was attended by the Tri-Forces Commanders, the Director General of Health Services, senior Ministry of Defence officials, and representatives from the Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police, and the Special Task Force.
