Deaf woman in Victoria launches new app

Rebecca Adam, a deaf woman and CEO of Expression Australia, is preparing to launch an app aimed at connecting deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals with emergency services.

She is seeking funding from the federal government to develop the app, which is expected to cost around $4 million.

While the National Emergency Response Service provides video calls for hearing-impaired Australians, Rebecca pointed out that the service only operates on weekdays and weekend mornings, which may be insufficient in critical situations.

The federal government, however, states that it invests $22 million annually in the National Emergency Response Service.

Rebecca emphasized that in life-threatening situations, the current service can be difficult to use effectively. She added that she and her daughter are developing the emergency call service app to help thousands of Australians in urgent need.
