Japanese encephalitis, a deadly virus transmitted by mosquitoes, has been reported in Brisbane for the first time.
Health experts suggest that the risk of infection has increased following the end of Cyclone Alfred a few days ago.
The virus has been identified as a risk in many populated areas of southeast Queensland.
This marks the first time Japanese encephalitis has been detected in Brisbane since 2022.
Infections have also been reported in other states, including Victoria and New South Wales.
Common symptoms of the virus include headaches and body aches.
