Daylight saving time is set to begin in many parts of Australia

Millions of Australians will lose an hour of sleep in a few weeks’ time as daylight saving comes into effect.

Daylight Saving Time will begin at 2am on Sunday, October 5.

Accordingly, the clocks will be moved forward by an hour between 2am and 3am.

This means that an hour of sleep is lost in the morning and an extra hour to enjoy the spring and summer sunshine.

Daylight Saving Time will end in April 2026, and the clocks will be moved back by an hour on Sunday, April 5 at 2am.

This time, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and Canberra will change Daylight Saving Time, while Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory have decided to opt out.

This is because Queensland, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory are located close to the equator, so the difference in daylight hours across the seasons in those regions does not vary much.
