Australia and Bangladesh are set to renew their Test rivalry in Darwin, with the first match of their two-Test series beginning on August 13 at Marrara Stadium.

The return of Test cricket to Darwin comes 22 years after the city last hosted a Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka in 2004.

That match was particularly memorable for Sri Lankan cricket fans as legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga made his Test debut for Sri Lanka at the ground.

Malinga produced an impressive performance, taking six wickets in the match, including four wickets in Australia’s second innings.

Australia eventually won that Test by 149 runs, and Darwin has not hosted another Test match since.

Now, after 22 years, Test cricket is returning to the Northern Territory, with Bangladesh taking on Australia in the opening match.

The second Test will be played in Mackay from August 22, while Bangladesh are also returning to Australia for a Test match for the first time in 23 years.
