D.V. Chanaka, a Parliamentarian of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, has alleged that Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody is attempting to prevent the release of a report related to the import of substandard coal.
Speaking to the media, Chanaka claimed that the minister had been at the Norochcholai Power Plant for several days and was trying to conceal findings linked to what he described as a coal-related irregularity.
He alleged that the issue amounts to a major fraud and warned that the country could face power shortages, potentially forcing the public to rely on generators during the festive season.
Chanaka further stated that although an initial report had been issued in January, the minister had not visited the plant for months and only did so after a no-confidence motion was brought forward.
He also claimed that efforts are being made to shift blame and avoid accountability, adding that opposition parties are uniting against what he described as ongoing corruption.
