
The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) ended the day on a strong note, buoyed by increased market activity and sustained investor interest. The positive momentum was underpinned by encouraging corporate earnings from the previous quarter and growing investor confidence across sectors.
The All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 102.73 points (0.61%) to close at 16,815.60, while the S&P SL20 Index climbed 44.65 points (0.91%) to end the session at 4,963.27, reflecting broad-based gains.
Total market turnover reached LKR 6.42 billion, with 173.85 million shares changing hands. Market sentiment remained upbeat, as 122 stocks posted gains compared to 94 decliners.
LOLC Holdings (LOLC.N) emerged as the top contributor to the ASPI, adding 17.17 points, while Hatton National Bank (HNB.N) weighed down the index with a 10.15-point decline.
The banking sector led the day’s activity, accounting for LKR 1.99 billion or nearly 31% of total turnover. Crossing transactions also played a significant role, contributing LKR 2.17 billion (34% of turnover), with Sampath Bank PLC (SAMP.N) leading the way through a major crossing of 12.7 million shares valued at LKR 1.46 billion.
Overall, today’s performance reflects strong investor appetite and optimism surrounding the equity market’s outlook.
