Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya announced that dedicated Crime Divisions have been established in all provinces, as part of intensified measures to curb criminal activity across the country.
According to the Acting IGP, the new units will function under the direct supervision of a Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, ensuring stronger oversight and coordination in investigations.
He further disclosed that the Police Department has also launched a special public awareness campaign focusing on crimes committed by law enforcement officers, in a bid to promote transparency and strengthen public trust.
