Cricket set to return to Olympics as official dates confirmed

Cricket will officially return to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028, with the men’s and women’s T20 competitions scheduled from July 12th to 29th of July 2028.

The women’s medal match will take place on July 20, while the men’s final will be held on July 29.

This marks cricket’s second appearance at the Olympics, 128 years after its debut at the Paris 1900 Games, where Great Britain won gold in a one-off match against France.

Six teams per gender will compete, with 90 athlete quotas for each tournament, allowing squads of up to 15 players.

All matches will be played at the Pomona Fairplex, located about 50 kilometers from downtown Los Angeles.

Most days will feature double-headers, with games scheduled at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time.

The return of cricket to the Olympics is seen as a major milestone in the sport’s global growth and a chance to showcase it on one of the world’s biggest stages.

The qualification process for LA28 has not yet been finalized but is expected to be discussed at the ICC’s Annual Conference in Singapore beginning 17th of July .
