COVID cases surge across Queensland this festive season

Queensland is experiencing a sharp rise in hospitalizations due to a recent COVID-19 outbreak.

Reports indicate that one in five Queenslanders who contract the virus will require hospitalization.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr. Heidi Carroll has cautioned that COVID-19 “is not going away” and highlighted the severity of the situation, with an average of 258 hospital admissions daily.

Hospital admissions have surged by 128% in less than two weeks, reflecting the rapid spread of the virus.

The XEC variant has been identified as the cause of this latest outbreak, accounting for 44% of cases detected in the Sunshine State over the past fortnight.

Medical experts are closely monitoring the situation as the variant continues to drive up infection rates.

Health authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to COVID safety measures.
