The Gampaha Magistrate’s Court has ruled that the takeover of the Frontline Socialist Party (FLSP) office in Yakkala by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) was illegal, and ordered the premises to be handed back to the FLSP.
Gampaha Additional Magistrate Shilani Perera issued the order, directing the JVP to return the office after declaring the takeover unlawful, according to FLSP Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda.
The court also ruled that the removal of FLSP members from the premises was illegal.
The FLSP had filed a petition seeking legal intervention to reclaim the office. The case was filed by FLSP Administration Secretary Chamira Koswatte and several party members, naming JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva and others as respondents.
The petition followed an incident in which a group of JVP supporters allegedly entered the Yakkala office by force, took control of the premises, and assaulted some occupants. The FLSP also accused the police of acting partially during the incident.
