The Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today (26th) rejected a request by the complainant to name Wasantha Samarasinghe, Mahinda Jayasinghe, and Ranjan Jayalal as suspects and to summon them to court.

Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe, delivering the order, noted that an investigation into the disputed property is still ongoing by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau and that the matter has already been referred to the Attorney General for instructions.
The Magistrate emphasised that no arrest order has been issued for the three individuals, nor are they currently named as suspects in the case. He further explained that a magistrate cannot interrupt or override the process of seeking guidance from the Attorney General during an ongoing investigation.
The order also stated that investigators are entitled to obtain the Attorney General’s advice if there is no conclusive evidence of a criminal offence relating to the property.
Accordingly, the court denied the complainant’s request to instruct police to name the three individuals as suspects and produce them before the court.
The case is scheduled for the next hearing on 27th of February .
