The Committee on Public Finance (COPF) met in Parliament this week to review the Ministry of Finance’s report concerning the disappearance of US$2.5 million held by the Treasury for government debt settlement purposes.

The meeting was chaired by Harsha de Silva and attended by Finance Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe, and officials from the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team.

During the discussions, Central Bank officials informed the committee that they would submit a separate report after conducting an independent review of the findings presented by the Ministry of Finance.

COPF Chairman Harsha de Silva stated that once both reports are received and examined, the committee will prepare a final report and submit it to Parliament for further consideration.

The session was also attended by Deputy Ministers Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Kaushalya Ariyarathne, and Nishantha Jayaweera, along with several Members of Parliament, including Ravi Karunanayake, Harshana Rajakaruna, Nimal Palihena, Chithral Fernando, Wijesiri Basnayake, and Lakmali Hemachandra.
