The Committee on Public Finance (COPF) has proposed key amendments to the Gambling Regulatory Authority Bill, including the regulation of the National Lotteries Board and Development Lotteries Board under the new authority.
The committee emphasized that lotteries are a form of gambling and should therefore fall within the scope of the proposed regulatory framework.
During the meeting, officials also confirmed that previous concerns related to the taxation of e-commerce platforms have now been resolved.
They noted that operations are proceeding smoothly after earlier disruptions caused by the transition back to HS code-based taxation.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, MPs Ravi Karunanayake, Rauff Hakeem, and several other members.
