The Consumer Affairs Authority has announced that its special raid and investigation programme launched for the festive season will continue until April 30.

According to CAA Director of Information and Consumer Affairs Asela Bandara, the authority has maintained a strong enforcement presence since the programme began on March 20.
He noted that nearly 2,000 raids have been carried out across the country within a short period, targeting traders accused of causing inconvenience or financial loss to consumers.
Authorities are also taking strict action against price gouging, particularly in cases where essential goods are sold above the maximum retail price. The programme further aims to identify and penalise unfair trade practices, including misleading customers and unethical business conduct.
Bandara urged the public to remain vigilant and report any fraudulent or unfair activities. Consumers can lodge complaints via the CAA hotline 1977 during office hours, enabling officials to investigate and take legal action against offenders.
