The construction of the Kadawatha–Mirigama section of the Central Expressway officially resumed yesterday (17th) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
As part of the relaunch, work has also commenced on the Kadawatha Interchange and the first 500-meter stretch of the expressway.
The government has allocated Rs. 8.6 billion for this project.
Construction was previously halted in mid-2022 due to the suspension of credit facilities caused by the economic crisis.
The Export-Import Bank of China has now approved a Yuan-denominated loan equivalent to USD 500 million, enabling the resumption of work.
The 37-kilometer Kadawatha–Mirigama stretch of the Central Expressway is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
