Complaint seeks Virat Kohli’s arrest over gambling ties

A complaint has been filed against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli at Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park Police Station in connection with the June 4 stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in 11 deaths and left several others injured.

The complainant, social activist HM Venkatesh, alleged that Kohli promoted gambling through the Indian Premier League (IPL), claiming this promotion incited the large crowd that led to the deadly incident.

Venkatesh described the IPL as “not a sport but gambling that has contaminated cricket” and accused Kohli, a prominent member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), of encouraging mass gatherings that caused the tragedy.

He requested police to name Kohli and other RCB team members as accused in the FIR and initiate legal action against them.

Police sources, quoted by news agency ANI, confirmed the complaint will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation and considered within the scope of the existing case.
