Communist party of China delegation meets JVP leadership

A high-level delegation of the Communist Party of China met with Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva and several JVP leaders at the party headquarters on Wednesday .

The Chinese delegation included Wang Junzheng, a member of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xizang Autonomous Region, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, and Peng Xiubin, Director-General of the East and South Asian Affairs Bureau of the International Department of the CCP Central Committee.

Representing the JVP were Politburo member and Minister of Industry and Enterprise Development Sunil Handunneththi, Central Committee member and Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, along with other party representatives.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the JVP. The talks also covered the history of the JVP, the current political situation in Sri Lanka, and cooperative initiatives carried out in 2025 under agreements signed during President Anura Dissanayake’s recent visit to China.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva expressed his gratitude for the assistance and support extended by the Chinese government to Sri Lankans affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

Wang Junzheng reaffirmed that such assistance would continue in the future. He also noted the successful conclusion of the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held last October, as well as a related programme conducted in Sri Lanka on the 23rd.

He further shared insights into China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, which is currently under wide discussion in China.

The meeting also explored ways and means to further strengthen cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the JVP in the year ahead.
