An expert committee has been appointed to oversee the cleaning of Beira Lake and provide recommendations for its development.
Minister of Urban Development, Construction, and Housing, Anura Karunathilaka, announced that the committee will consist of 12 experts in the field.
Previous efforts to clean the lake have failed, with 21 sewage channels, including four major ones, still flowing into the water.
Plans are in place to halt sewage discharge into Beira Lake within the year to improve water quality.
The committee will develop an action plan based on international practices to tackle algae growth, foul odor, and pollution.
