Colombo HC postpones ‘Sathosa’ case against Johnston Fernando

The Colombo High Court yesterday (21st) postponed the hearing of the case against former Minister Johnston Fernando and two others to June 03 for further evidence.

The case, filed by the Bribery Commission, alleges that the accused caused a government loss by unlawfully using Lanka Sathosa employees for political activities during Fernando’s tenure as Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade.

During today’s proceedings, a representative from the Bribery Commission requested a postponement due to the Deputy Solicitor General’s absence, as he is currently abroad on official duties.

High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuvida granted the request and instructed all witnesses to appear on June 03 when the hearings will resume.

The Bribery Commission alleges that Johnston Fernando, alongside former Lanka Sathosa Chairman Eraj Fernando and former Working Director Mohamed Shakeer, misused 153 Sathosa employees for political purposes from 2010 to 2014, resulting in a financial loss of Rs. 40 million.
