The Judicial Services Commission has transferred Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage to the Moratuwa District and Magistrate’s Court.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has been appointed as the new Colombo Chief Magistrate by the Judicial Services Commission.
On Monday, Magistrate Thilina Gamage requested the Judicial Services Commission to transfer the hearings of a bribery case involving two individuals, including former Western Provincial Councilor Salochana Gamage.
The bribery case involves allegations of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 9 million, and Gamage noted a conflict of interest, as one of the defendants, Salochana Gamage, is his brother.
Magistrate Gamage emphasized that his court was unable to proceed with the case due to this conflict of interest and requested the appointment of another magistrate to handle the hearings.
The request was made in writing to the Judicial Services Commission, ensuring that the case would be heard by a suitable magistrate.
