The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an inquiry into a photo circulating on social media, which allegedly shows the sacred tooth relic during the ongoing Siri Dalada Vandanawa at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.
According to Police Headquarters, the image is being shared with claims that it was taken by a devotee who visited the temple between 18th and 27th of April 2025. However, taking photos or using mobile phones during the observance is strictly prohibited.
Following instructions from the Acting Inspector General of Police, the CID is investigating whether the photo was genuinely taken during the religious event, whether it was captured by a visitor, or if it has been digitally manipulated.
