
The Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the CID has launched an investigation into 22 former ministers and MPs over alleged misuse of funds from the President’s Fund between 2008 and 2024.
Police confirmed that investigating officers have obtained 22 files related to the disbursement of these funds.
Preliminary findings indicate that over Rs. 1 billion was obtained by the individuals in question in varying amounts.
CID officers are now examining whether any irregularities occurred in the process of acquiring these funds.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, they have sought a court order from the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court (April 2nd) to access details of cheques issued from the President’s Fund account.
