The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that statements made by several individuals in the media regarding the Easter Sunday terror attack investigations may amount to contempt of court.

The CID alleged that remarks made by Dilith Jayaweera, Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Sugishwara Bandara, Mahinda Pathirana, and Asanka Navaratne have interfered with ongoing judicial proceedings.
These observations were presented through a motion filed before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on Monday (15).
Investigating officers told the court that a formal inquiry into the matter has already been initiated.
They further stated that legal action is being prepared before the Court of Appeal against the individuals concerned under the Contempt of a Court, Tribunal or Institution Act, No. 8 of 2024.
The CID also emphasized that the alleged comments could undermine the integrity of ongoing investigations related to the Easter Sunday terror attack case.
