CID Complaint targets former officials over false claims against SL President

A complaint has been filed with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against Thusitha Halloluwa, the former Acting Director of the National Lotteries Board and former Director General of Public Relations to ex-President Ranil Wickremesinghe, over an allegedly false and defamatory statement made against President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The complaint was lodged last night (4th of May) by Attorney-at-Law Akalanka Ukwatta, under the directive of President Dissanayake, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma also accompanied Ukwatta to the CID, the statement noted.

The complaint urges the CID to launch an immediate investigation and take legal action against Halloluwa and others involved in circulating the defamatory statement on social media.

The statement is said to have the potential to seriously damage the President’s reputation and public image.
