Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong reaffirmed the strong and enduring friendship between China and Sri Lanka, emphasising extensive bilateral cooperation in development projects, public welfare initiatives, and crisis response.
He noted that the two nations have supported each other through major challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic, economic crises, kidney disease, and flood relief efforts.
The Ambassador made these remarks in a statement marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. He recalled President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China earlier this year, during which significant understandings were reached with President Xi Jinping to build a China–Sri Lanka community with a shared future and elevate bilateral ties to a new level.
Highlighting the scope of cooperation, Ambassador Qi pointed to both large-scale infrastructure projects and livelihood initiatives. These include the Colombo Port City, Hambantota Port improvements, the Central Expressway Project, integrated water supply schemes in Gampaha, Attanagalla, and Minuwangoda, as well as donations of school supplies, free cataract surgeries, and the refurbishment of key public institutions such as the National Hospital’s Out-Patient Department and the Superior Courts Complex.
“Our bilateral exchanges are truly multi-faceted,” he said, stressing that both high-level engagements and grassroots initiatives demonstrate the all-round advancement of ties.
Concluding his message, Ambassador Qi extended warm wishes: “We wish China and Sri Lanka greater prosperity and everlasting friendship.”
