A large consignment of 11.484 million metres of fabric, donated by the Chinese government for Sri Lanka’s school uniform programme, has arrived at the port, the Ministry of Education announced.
The official handover of the fabric stock is scheduled for tomorrow, with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya presiding over the ceremony.
The donation is intended to support the distribution of school uniforms to students nationwide, including those in government and government-assisted schools, as well as student monks in state-approved Pirivena institutions.
According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 4,418,404 students are eligible to receive school uniforms under this year’s programme.
Distribution of the fabric to zonal education offices is set to begin on January 19, ensuring that students receive the assistance within the month.
