China’s HMPV virus infects 8-month-old baby in India

The Delhi government has issued guidelines following the detection of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in Karnataka, India, after reports of the virus in China.

India’s first HMPV case was identified in an eight-month-old infant in Bangalore, with no recent travel history for the child or their family.

Symptoms of HMPV include cough, fever, runny nose, respiratory issues, and in severe cases, shortness of breath.

Authorities have clarified that there has been no significant increase in respiratory problems in Delhi and have assured citizens that the health system is prepared to handle outbreaks of HMPV and other respiratory illnesses.

The government has urged people to remain calm, noting that the situation in China is not unusual, and India is well-equipped to manage the spread of such diseases.
