China provides USD 100,000 in aid to flood-hit Sri Lanka

In the aftermath of severe floods and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah—which resulted in significant loss of life and extensive property damage across Sri Lanka—the Chinese government and people have extended their solidarity and support.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka announced that the Red Cross Society of China has provided USD 100,000 in emergency cash assistance to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.

In addition, broader emergency aid from the Chinese government is already being mobilised.

Strengthening these relief efforts further, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Overseas Chinese Association in Sri Lanka have initiated donation campaigns, raising a combined total of Rs. 10 million to assist affected communities.

The Embassy, in its statement, expressed confidence in Sri Lanka’s ability to recover, noting:

“Under the firm leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and with the collective support of the international community, the valiant Sri Lankan people will undoubtedly overcome the disaster, stand united in solidarity, and rebuild their homes in the near future.”
