Former MP Prof. Channa Jayasumana has strongly criticised the removal of the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, claiming the decision was taken without due process.
Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne was suspended by the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee last week. Speaking to the media, Jayasumana alleged that the senior official was removed without prior notice or the conduct of a disciplinary inquiry.
He warned that such actions could set a dangerous precedent and undermine the integrity and stability of the public service in the future.
Jayasumana also linked the incident to recent political rhetoric, referring to statements made by Minister K.D. Lalkantha about “capturing state power,” and suggested that the removal reflected the way such power was being exercised.
