The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has reported a profit of Rs. 5.31 billion for the financial quarter ending 30th of June 2025.

This represents a sharp recovery from the Rs. 18.47 billion loss recorded in the previous quarter, which ended on 31st of March 2025.
Analysts attribute the turnaround to the electricity tariff revision implemented in June 2025.
However, the profit marks an 85% decline compared to the Rs. 34.53 billion recorded in the same quarter of 2024.
The government’s decision to reduce electricity tariffs by around 20% in January 2025 had significantly contributed to the first-quarter losses.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has repeatedly emphasized the need for cost-reflective electricity pricing as a key condition for Sri Lanka to secure the next tranche of its Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
In line with this requirement, the government revised electricity tariffs in June 2025.
