The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has issued a public advisory on handling wet or flood-affected currency notes following the recent devastating floods.
The advisory instructs the public to separate wet notes gently without pulling them apart if they are bundled together. Once unbundled, the notes should be wrapped in absorbent material and left to dry at room temperature.
When drying, notes should be placed on a clean, dry surface, avoiding coloured or printed materials. Hot water, detergents, or chemicals must not be used; instead, notes should be air-dried naturally in a well-ventilated area.
Once completely dried, any unusable notes can be submitted for exchange at any commercial bank.
