The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Property Act is scheduled to be taken up again today (28) before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

The case relates to allegations that Wickremesinghe misused government funds to travel to London to attend a ceremony honouring his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe, at a British university while he was serving as Head of State.

The former President was arrested on 22nd of August , 2025, after appearing before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement. He was later produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court and remanded until 26th of August .

After considering medical reports submitted on his behalf, Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered his release on three surety bails of Rs. 5 million each and postponed further hearings in the case.
