The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, has called for a new constitution to strengthen democratic governance and combat corruption.
Following a meeting with Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne on January 5, the Cardinal addressed the media, stressing the urgent need for constitutional reforms to ensure accountability and transparency.
Cardinal Ranjith highlighted the importance of establishing a robust mechanism to investigate corruption that undermines democracy.
He also reiterated the necessity of uncovering the truth behind the Easter Sunday attacks, urging a comprehensive probe into those responsible and their accomplices.
The Cardinal pointed out that Sri Lanka has a history of unresolved crimes, including cases of murder and disappearances, which have eroded public trust.
He emphasized that constitutional changes are essential to address the flaws in the existing system and to ensure justice and good governance for the nation.
