Cardinal: Easter attack probe still stalled

The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, stated that the investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks remains sluggish.

Although the President has shown interest in the matter, the Cardinal said the legal system and officials responsible have slowed down the process.

The main memorial service for the victims of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks was held today at St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade.

The service was led by Cardinal Ranjith and attended by Venerable Omalpe Sobitha Thero, religious leaders, ambassadors, victims, and their families.

During the ceremony, Cardinal Ranjith declared the 167 people who died in the attacks as “witnesses of faith.”

He made several appeals to the President, including a request to present the Easter Sunday Presidential Commission Report to Parliament and make it public.

The Cardinal also called for the creation of an independent Office of the Prosecutor to oversee the investigation and pursue legal action.

He emphasized the need to investigate all parties involved in the attacks, uncover the truth, and ensure justice is served without discrimination.
